I was reading on the Wnycarclubs forum, about apraising your car, I just think getting it apraised is kind of a waste of money, apraisers tell you what you want to hear, and the insurance company (at least Hagerty)will only pay you what they feel your car is worth, I heard some stories on that issue

Appraisals are just a warm fuzzy feeling you pay for. Around western ny you can't get 5k for a 15k car. I've been successful with insurance companies in the past....very successful. There is an ass for every seat but with the Barrett-Jackson auction....most people think their car is worth a fortune just because it's old. You can get the appraisal bumped up a bit if you argue about the estimate. You are paying for it and most appraiser's are afraid of the "bad word" going around when they leave.

getting your car apraised is like paying someone to say nice things about your ride, I guess Hagerty uses the NADA prices, now my car is done, I will bump my coverage up to and insure it somewhere between the 11,500 average retail- 19,580 high retail, bottom line is what the insurance will pay in a total loss.

Well, I take it you are refering to my post. We do use Hagerty to insure the show cars. We need to have updated appraisals so we know how much to ins the cars for. When we first went to Hagerty the first thing they asked for was a copy of an appraisal and pics of the cars.

No 67old442 not just your post their were a few postings about appraisals in the past, just giving our opinions, I also have Hagerty and all they asked me for were pictures, and pictures of my 65 Plymouth while being restored, because I would increase my coverage as I went along, from what I understand by talking with them they have a set price for vechicles. But I never thought maybe with an appraisal they would have to cover more

My insurance company also asked for an appraisal of my car, however they will not insure it for more than the book value because it is all stock. I think I would be hard pressed to replace it for the appraised value.

I have State Farm and need no appraisal, just a picture taken. My personal opinion is the "specialty" insurance companies are over rated, and also a time issue getting forms/documents plus a hassle with a claim. I had a claim on a car last year and actually received more than expected from a plain old generic insurance company.

Hagerty is the best for antique and classic cars, no mileage restrictions, no deductible, no red tape, no hassles

And when you give them the payment...do you get the insurance cards immediately to register your car ?? Is there someone local to handle a claim ??

yes...2006....but remember..not everyone has a computer. First Niagara should also be able to hand the card over. Insurance companies can also fax a card to a DMV. Had it done several times. I like My way better. Dealing with a person direct works better for Me.

Yes I had a little problem when putting my car on the road I put coverage on my car in December and I didn`t notice that you have a time limit for putting plates on, well anyway Hagerty came thru and faxed a new ID card to First Niagara and First Niagara faxed over to DMV all in a matter of Minutes, also I think I would rather deal with a computer then face to face with some people any way, I bet you your insurance company is out of state and all you are doing is dealing local with an agent. I also have Geico never went to the agent , all my dealing are on line
;D

I have state farm where I can deal with an agent in almost any town in the country...great for roadtrips. I guess you can call yours from any state also, or take a laptop....and when instructions aren't clear...what do you ask a computer then...

Stange Ins. Agency 120 East Felton St. North Tonawanda, NY 14120
692-0018
They are an agent for Hagerty. Matter of fact I am the one who put Stange in touch with Hagerty about being a local agent.
