Also what does everyone think about being judged as you drive in? Seems easier, just set up 5 places to park and judge them. Since its be a smaller show, should work, if not it would be funny. Joe.......WTF? Just pass me the crack pipe! ;D We did a show like that in Rochester a couple years ago......another aaca production ..........what a joke that was. I only hope they changed that way of doing things by now. We had to pay $15 to get in, and then had to roll up our windows, and open our trunk, and get out of the car and stand there 20 feet away while these clowns judged my car with splattered bugs all over the windshield and mud along the side of my car. I wonder if the muddy puddle at the entrance in the line we were directed to was there deliberately? You know, hose the guys you don't want to win? J/K It was well over 90 that day, needless to say we didn't win anything, and just about everybody was complaining. Then it rained just before the awards ceremony......mostly everyone had left by then, because they announced the winners over the loudspeaker first before giving them out. I was pi$$$ed b/c there was a car just like mine there that had holes in the seats, oil all over the motor, and rust along the bottom side of the fenders but it won in my class because it was all completely original. Yep......drrive through judging is a real bad idea.

I'm not supporting the drive by, but it does have one advantage over the "walk by" (walk by: definition; Judges take a half second look at car and walk by,scribble doodles on judging sheet, give you goofy grin) At least at a drive by they have to make a better effort , be more creative,to ignore your car LOL...

Drive by Judging??? that was Jim M. thing one time, how can you judge a car by a drive by, what is juded in a judged show is, interior, undercarrage, engine compartment and appearence of the car. Just save time and pull names out of a hat.

I think pulling out of a hat is the preferred method

Most aaca shows I've been to have a flea market/swap meet......that's the only reason I might attend another one. I found some nice factory literature at that one in Rochester I got hosed at. Worth the trip I guess.........I could have bought better but couldn't pay more. LOL

Technically an AACA show "should" be judged as close to factory as they can determine. So points lost for Radials, Halogens, aftermarket radio, battery, shocks etc.......But also..........no underspray on the undercarriage? No sound deadening in the wheel wells? Or sound deadening not appled haphazardly? then point deductions accordingly. Truth is, we for the most part restore our cars to a level above what the manufacturer delivered it. In old cars price guide, going by their criteria I beleive a brand new car as delivered would barely be a class 2 car, and would have to be dis-asembled and restored to be a class one car.
Years ago........My wife and I attended the AACA show when it was held in conjunction with the Hamburg Swap meet. She had the 67 Corvair, I had the 73 T-Bird...........we spent from 8:00 AM to 12:30 detailing the cars best we possibly could, even digging stones out of the tire treads. We both took 2nds in our classes, She was in production 67-69 with over 20 cars in class and was parked next to a car with one side put on jack stands to show the detailing with mirrors underneath. That car did not place. I was in the T-Bird class, competing against 2 seater birds through 68 birds with my then 15 year old car. One of the cars I was competing against was a National Senior AACA winner (that should not have been competing against us) that took 3rd place while I got 2nd! He arrived just minutes before judging started and just used a dusting brush on the car.
Best thing was, won 2 awards, both 2nd place, with unquestioningly the least valueble of all the other cars in the classes. It was an experiment to see how we would do by knowing and following what was looked for. At that time I even had T-3's in the vair, delco battery, etc......and bias ply tires. T-Bird, had Motorcraft battery, and all original tires belts and hoses........
Detail is clean too!

okay I want to come out and play in this discussion...95gts don't try and do a show on your own...well I spit that out quickly didn't I...help at the other shows, you will still get the abuse like all of the rest and still want to stay in this hobby...maybe I should bring back "cruisin for the kids" show... naaaa...had the quick brain laspe on that one...we tried to design our show to do away with all of the complaints that we had over heard all of the years..well, we just created more...we didn't have any classes, went with the odd titles, well people still complained as to why they won that title and not another...didn't charge any registration fee, just put in what you wanted, food was cheap, heck of a chinese auction..didn't matter where you spent your money it ALL went to the charity of chose for that year..everyone that worked the show volunteered their time and help, didn't put there cars in for judging (which was unfair to them not to win some of the awards we gave out as they were good awards, radio flyer wagons, tonka trucks etc) but we compensated the helpers as without them, we would have been sitting there with our thumbs up somewhere (that compensation came out of our pockets, not the money for the charity) got a ton of award sponsers as I tried to keep the cost down on that, but you have the cost of the award, the engraving, all in all, yes it was wonderful to raise money for the handicapped children over the years, but it also was getting harder and harder to get things donated, so more pocket money.. in the end it would have been much easier to have just taken all of the money we got from sponsers, send all of that in to the charity and been done with it...alot alot alot ( I can not not emphasis that word enough goes ) of work goes into doing a show.. yes you start the very next day (hey you had one days rest) for the following year. There were plenty of times we sat and say, "why are we doing this, so we can take the abuse from all of the whinners" is it worth it? to tell you the truth, when we would get a thank you note back from one of the kids that received the special wheelchair, or took the equipment into a class and saw the kids..that is what made every minute of what we did very well worth it..and we also knew that there really are good people out there who have and had the exact same intentions we had..not I won this or that, but we made a huge difference in a childs life...could I do it again...yes, would I do it again, that is a very hard question to answer...think my kids would shoot me during the preperation of it..(mom was a huge gouch, that is putting it mildly). So as I have always told someone, unless you are involved with a show from start to finish (and that doesn't mean just the day of the show) you just don't have a clue of the work that has been done and continues to have to be done...so 95gts... if I were you, just join in and help the shows where, trust me, help is never turned away...look I have become the official "TP queen" for the olcott show...there is alot to do with maning the music and making sure little dick and jane can wipe their butts that day....just think I could have devistated an entire park if I had hid the box of paper towels and toitet paper on everyone...oh don't get Momma J ticked.....lol.....oh well, I will step off my soap box for now.....

I remember the cruising for kids shows well. They were a great concept, tons of prizes and awards, and great awards they were. And I also remember the Aholes too! People "saving" spots for friends while the lot at K'mart was gridlocked. And really PO'd when they were told move the chairs saving the spot or lose them. I remember people at the "final" show...........all day people were told to register.......it was free! At the end of the day it was announced that all you had to do was turn in a window card and pick up an award..........dozens of people tried and register then, and couldn't. Even one guy tried turning in a flyer for another show as his window card..................
The concept and names of the awards were great, and all day people wanted to know what the criteria was for an award................. Ever heard the phrase......"No good deed goes unpunished"?

Cruisin at the K with Stevie J was always a ball. I never expected to win anything, just went to have fun and tip a few brewskies....Alot of work for a good cause and more people appreciated the effort than other's.
