The airbag light came on, the horn isn`t working and the cruise control isn`t working on our 1999 Dodge Grand caravan, looks like its the air bag clockspring in the steering columm that is defective, has anyone else had this problem with this type of vehicle seems like a common defect, with other caravan owners.

I'd call the dealer and see what they say. Alot of times they troubleshoot for free over the phone

I had one break in the Subaru........... Had vince's auto wrecking change one out of a junker into it, about half what the deraler wanted.

I called the dealer 1st thing in the morning, they said its under warranty, made an appointment to take it in Tuesday

That's great...when I suggested the dealer it was the intensions of getting free advice....not directing You there for a repair

after checking on the internet I see that this problem is wide spread with caravans, and chrysler has had a recall for this problem.

1999 DODGE CARAVAN Recall ID from NHTSA: 04V480000 Auto Recall Date: 20041006 Vehicle Component: AIR BAGS Estimated Vehicles Affected: 955344 1999 DODGE CARAVAN Defect Summary: ON CERTAIN MINIVANS, THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG MAY BECOME DISABLED DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE CLOCKSPRING, WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE HUB OF THE STEERING WHEEL. Defect Consequence: THIS CONDITION WILL MANIFEST ITSELF THROUGH ILLUMINATION OF THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP, AND COULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN A DRIVER'S AIR BAG OPEN CIRCUIT, IF THE PART IS NOT REPLACED IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME.
