is anybody planning on watching this year? i saw the re-run of last years auction. you can really learn a lot of trivia if you have a week to spend in front of the tube on the speed channel. the mopars and fords really cleaned up last year.......especially the shelby mustangs and hemi cars. many corvette's are nearly un-touchable. especially the fuelly's and big blocks. no wonder vette owners are a special breed but they got cheaper on the last day of the auction. people must have to remortgage their house in order to afford these cars. i even saw a lot of clones getting big bucks......hemi 'cudas are becoming rediculas. when's the bubble gonna burst? seeing the kind of coin these cars are getting, i wouldn't be leaving any hemi car in the driveway un-attended while going inside to grab a sandwhich! ;D

Last year, a clone car I helped build sold at BJ. Mike Oliver's 440 6bbl 4-speed pink convertible, with shaker hood. It was even advertised as a re-creation.
the car was really a 318 HARDTOP automatic car.........tripple green. It went for something like $58,000
A real one probably would have gone for $200,000

I'd rather see the cars going at auction between 10 and 25k....watching the other stuff is like watching your older brother get presents you wish you had

Do they even run any ''cheap'' stuff through that auction? Everytime I watch it I only see the high end cars up for auction.

I heard they do the cheap stuff on a tuesday of the big auctions. I've been to the KRUSE auction in Indianna and they handle more realisticly priced car for US pikers

Barrett Jackson auctions have a limited amount of spots available, and they do the scheduling. Sooooooo, they can actually "bump" a non-high dollar car in favor of one that will sell higher. also, they pretty much sell with no reserve. that's OK for the most part, but if you have a $30,000 car it could conceivably sell for under that. And at no reserve you are stuck. Technically they will allow you to put on a reserve price, but for the last couple of years, they bumped all the cars with a reserve for cars with no reserve price.
And remember, a bunch of this is televised, so ratings come into play as well. They make money on putting on the show too, and sponsors and advertising come into play.
There is big money to be had here, I beleive there is a price just to get in, plus a fee to bid thats like over $200. Plus buyers commission, sellers commission, etc.
They rent the property with certain stipulations, in effect they are the law of the land and make the rules. One big rule is no cars for sale on their property! would you beleive they tow and impound over 100 cars a day for violating that..........after charging a parking fee to boot. When people cry and complain, they have no recourse but to pay the towing and leave, or lose the car sometimes including the truck and trailor that brought it in.
Lets face it, we watch to see the money spent as if it was nothing, and dream of selling our cars for that kind of cash...................but in reality, it is mostly the best of the best that sell for the huge money.
