Tonight on the news they said for people with incomes above about $35,000, the high price of gas is not an issue. But for those with incomes below that, it is causing a major hardship. Tell me something I don't know. They also said those same people with the higher incomes really like their GAS GUZZLING suv's.......the same ones whose popularity is the core reason why gas consumption in this country has skyrocketed, making an excuse for the big oil companies to rip us off by the gallon more and more with each new passing day. Frankly, I wouldn't mind having to pay a GAS GUZZLER TAX OF maybe a buck or two per gallon to fill up the Riv......as long as I was rewarded when I fill up my daily drivers, that both get good mileage, by getting a lower price for gas. Why should people who drive sensible cars that get good gas mileage have to suffer as a result of people who are making gluttens of themselves using gas like crazy driving excessive vehicles that have created this problem? You don't need to drive a huge gas guzzling truck around just for transportation! C'mon SUV drivers.......I'm all ready for 'ya! I'm sick of spending all my extra money on gas while you guys continue to just make this problem worse!

does anyone with any grey matter in their brain pan believe that a family making 35000 a year can afford gas and taxes in NY. One or two children and 35k doesn't go very far unless you can walk to work, live in the cold(winter) and not have a damn dime for any entertainment. WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING??

My commute to work is 27 miles one way. For daily drivers I have a Subaru, and my summertime Indy Ram pickup. My Indy Ram gets 17MPG, but I am comfortable in it. I have arthritis bothering me and it hurts to crawl in and out of the subaru. I use the truck for transportation, but also use it as a truck when needed. Pulling the car trailer for instance. I hear people trying to dictate to others about car pooling and taking public transportation. There isn't any buses between Gasport and Batavia, and I am the only one from out here that works where I do. I have no intention of moving either........... My choices are simply paying for the gas! I have noticed though that I am able to consolidate some errands rather than jump into the car whenever I need something.
And the price of gas is going to keep me home from some shows and cryuises this year. Will have to pick and choose................ And most likely will use a Corvair or Valiant instead of the T-bird or Dodge.

I`m also keeping to the more local shows and cruises, I took both cars to the lockport cruise and it cost me over $60, and almost an engine! the experts say we should see the gas prices fall a little next month, but remember they haven`t peaked yet!!
maybe a person who rents a 1 room apartment, eats Mac and cheese every day and drives a Moped can live on 35K a year!!

But Joe my 96 JEEP is an SUV, it gets better gas mileage then my wife`s Gran Caravan, my JEEP and also pulled a few sensible cars out of snow banks ;D also the sensible cars just don`t do that great in accidents

Hey Nailhead, what news program did you hear about 35K and the outrageous gas prices not being a problem? (You might be able to tell that I'm not a major stock holder in any oil company.) It's been a while since I gave some pea-brained jerk or jerkette talking head a lesson in economics. Benny is absolutely right, try maintaining a family, even a small family, including housing and transportation on $35,000/year. The oil company executives and stock holders are laughing at us working class folks as they roll in money - heartless amoral people that they are.

on that 35k income you are taxed at 18% fed and 5% State.....so over 20% is lost before you give the money to the Bank(mortgage) and oil companies

A 2006 study by Texas A&M University found that the average American walks about 900 miles per year. Another study by the American Beer Institute found that Americans drink an average of 22 gallons of beer a year. That means, on average, Americans get approximately 41 miles per gallon. Not bad !

Your Father and I agree that the middle class is disappearing or that the middle class is now in the 60 to 120 range a year...of which I am not included. I remember in the early 60's when a nice 3 bedroom brick ranch on a large lot sold for 18k. I said...if I could only make 25k a year I would be on easy street. I was making 95 cents an hour part time then at a cut-rate gas staion before minimum wage...lol.... oh and Benny is always RIGHT.....someone....somewhere......someday....somehow.....will agree with Me.

Ray......your Jeep IS a sensible vehicle, although it's considered an SUV. What chaps my azz is SOCCER MOMS driving the kids to school in a HUMMER or a Excursion and people who feel they need an ugly, oversized, gas guzzling vehicle that is that has no practical purpose for daily transportation. People who live in the mountains or need work trucks I can see.........but there ain't no mountains around here last time I checked. I guess what really has me irked is that one more summer I can no longer afford the long trips we used to go on with the Riv. Just driving from here to Lewiston costs about 10 bucks for gas. There is some really nice shows in Pennsylvania and Central New York we used to go to.......but when it costs $100 for gas round trip it's just no longer worth it. We took that car to Atlantic City a few times.......that's out of the question now. Even if I had a lot of money to spend, I still would think long and hard about about spending so much on gas. I have to admit.....the new crap does have one thing over the old.......and that's GAS MILEAGE!

hey how did the TV make out? Seems good......I did some soldering, and it gets a great picture. The tuner is shot though, channels 2-4 drop out but if you use the line inputs it works fine. I gave it to my daughter, she has a sattelite box and it should work good like that. ;D
