Most of the train excisions are for the adult market except for THOMAS. Most of the stuff that we do operate most of the year but are ones we schedule depending on our travels. We took the motor home out to Arizona last year to visit my girl friends Sister. So being in Arizona we decided to visit the Grand Canyon. One of my friends Son just happens to be an engineer on the Grand Canyon Railroad. They operate steam but only between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and diesel all other times. So we got there just before Memorial Day and did the train the Tuesday after. That is a 60 mile ride from Williams, AZ that drops you off at the South Rim. Included is a half hour western show before boarding and the show continues on the train ride up and the train ride back. By the way Williams, AZ is right on ROUTE 66 and the town is a trip by itself.

Also while out west we rode the Narrow Gage Cumbres and Toltec out of Chama, NM. Now that is a ride. It is 64 miles long up to Antineto, CO. but takes over 6 hours to climb and go around the mountains. It crosses the NM, CO border 11 times. Because of the 6 hours they are only one way train rides. To get back you board a bus. The bus only takes 1 hour, mostly down hill, to get back to Chama. I do not recommend taking children under 15 on these kind of rides as they will get bored quickly and will not get the full effect of the country and topography.

On our October trip next month we will also be visiting TRAIN TOWN and the Strausburg Train Museum as some side trips. COOL.

In QUICK ROD, the object is to run 6.900 seconds in the 1/8 mile. Speed is not a factor unless there is a tie with time and then the speed decides the winner. IF you run quicker than 6.900 then you BREAK OUT and are disqualified during eliminations. Example lane 1 runs 6.899 and lane 2 runs 6.999. The slower 6.999 wins because the 6.899 is under 6.900 and he broke out. My error on the qualifying time. It was a 6.903 not the 6.93 I mentioned earlier. You can still win it you BREAK OUT but only if you BREAK OUT less that the car you run. Example, lane 1 runs a 6.889 and lane 2 runs a 6.890. Both cars BROKE OUT and ran under the 6.900. But lane 2 broke out LESS than lane 1, so lane 2 wins that round by .001 seconds. AND many of the races are that close. ALSO, QUICK ROD uses a PRO TREE. That is the christmas tree lights use the PRO format of the 3 YELLOW lights go on at the same time, then the GREEN light goes on. There is no count town of the yellow lights. The time between the YELLOW lights and the GREEN light on a PRO TREE is .4 seconds. If your REACTION TIME is LESS than .4 seconds, you RED LIGHT. The NORMAL TREE for regular racers is a count down of the TOP yellow light, the CENTER yellow light, the BOTTOM yellow light, then the GREEN light. The interval between those lights is .5 seconds. SO on a regular tree your reaction time has to be .5 seconds or more. Under .5 seconds and you RED LIGHT. AND this is not a LECTURE but an EXPLANATION because some people do not understand these things. REACTION times is usually what wins races. On a regular tree our drivers reaction times are about 5.12. ON the PRO TREE a 4.36 is doing very good. Hope that helps.....

On a regular tree .500 is perfect, does a pro tree work the same way and perfect R/T is .400?

Do the lights just go faster and why the difference between them?

Yes a perfect R/T on a regular tree is .500 and on a PRO TREE it is .400. Those are the time intervals between the last yellow light to the green light on the regular tree and all the yellow lights and the green light on the PRO TREE.

The reason it is faster on the PRO TREE is just that, it IS harder to react to a PRO TREE and it keeps that class down to those who can handle a PRO TREE. It makes the R/T that much more critical.
