Unlees you're making a trailer queen and entering judged shows of high quality, My opinion is the wires and going to electronic ignition is much better and cheaper in the long run. I drive my cars and couldn't think of a 5k paint job. Any scratch would kill me...and I don't see ANY number 1 cars driven on the street and not too many number 2's. People like to "think " their car is a 1 or 2 but would they be hurt/surprised to know the truth

95 GTS, yeah.................I have stories. Basically my 67 Coronet we had to replace both front fenders, both doors, both quarters, floor pans, trunk floor, hood, trunk lid, and front inner fender wells. basically the cowl is original....................one big jigsaw puzzle.
As for date coded wires, filters hoses and such. It's a lot of money to spend on parts that are considered "disposable" and should be more relegated to the museum pieces and trailer queens. It doesn't score much around here unless you are going to AACA shows or other white glove shows. If that's the way someone wants to go.......that's OK too. I still like to drive mine, I enjoy driving my cars and talking about them than taking home some award. Awards are OK...............we recently cleaned out our home office and actually found my desk. My wife actually let me select some of the awards that mean the most to me to display on the wall. One award was a "Best MOPAR" award won by my 66 Coronet back around 1986 at a car show at Kiebzaks in Sloan. Bet none of you have heard of or even remember that one. Award is on mirrored glass, etched, really nice.
I've seen cars sell that were no more than a vin tag and frame numbers for $5000 plus+ a vin tag that will be used to make a clone. I would be leary of buying that high a dollar muscle car due to the number of clones out there. Besides, when you get into that dollar amount, you think twice about driving it. And to me getting there is half the fun.............

Upgrades like electronic ignition, gas shocks, radial tires, dual master cylinder, halogen lights are more driveability and safety oriented so they are OK in my book. They also don't detract from the originality as they are easily reversible.

how about the paint jobs, most are base coat clear coat paint jobs, in the 60s & 70s single stage paints were used,

ok maybe i`m wrong, but when I enter a PJ show and vote on a certain car what I look for is the detail, something that makes one car attractive over another car, anyone can go buy a FRAM or NAPA oil filter for $3, but seeing a MOPAR oil filer, MOPAR wires, MOPAR battery, on a MOPAR gives it a finishing touch, maybe its a good thing I`m not the judge at my car show, lol

I would never change the point style ignition on my cars, unless they were my daily drivers.

I ran a petronix electronic conversion on my 65 Corvair for awhile, it failed! Worse thing was it failed in Carlisle PA. Luckily I had the points plate with me to convert back.
Sure original filters are great. But on a MOPAR unless it is a Big Block, or a slanty, it's hard to see. GM's are pretty much hard to see too. Now an original type battery with the original spring ring type clamps is right out there. But admit it, to 90% of the "participants" that kind of detail is wasted..............
As for paint jobs, isn't it next to impossible to get the laquer and enamel anymore. And basically the base coat/clear coat seems to look better and last longer. I have plenty of laquer cracks myself..............

Yeah, maybe you're right on the older ones. Barely visible on the newer ones. I'm a big block guy anyways.
